Islamorada is one of my favorite places on Earth to fish. Such a gorgeous
fishery, full of just about everything that swims, clear water, sandy
bottoms and it's always a little bit more interesting when the shark show
up. In this week's episode I'm fishing with Capt. Tony Melton in Islamorada
and we're hooking into lemon shark and Tripletail. Had a great time shooting
. . . Capt. Tony told me it'd been awhile since he was the one fighting
the fish so when he hooked into a Mogan shark late in the day, I handed him
the rod. I think he was sorry he ever shared that bit of information with
me. Ha! Got his arms stretched a bit.
Tune in today at 3:00 p.m. on Pursuit Channel for "Melton Drags." Next week's episode on Pursuit is "St. Pete Smokers" featuring Capt. Ryan Farner. We're fishing in Tampa Bay for smokin' kingfish. So check it out on Monday at 9 a.m., Thursday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 7 p.m. (ET).
Did I ever tell you the story about how our producer fell in the water with
the 6 foot Lemon Shark we had on the line during Capt. Tony's shoot? Oh yes,
true story! We were trying to get some underwater footage when producer Sam
came up to the bow of the boat. I brought the shark close enough to dunk the
camera in and Sam got a little too close to the side, and slipped off and
into the water. Quickly, I grabbed him and pulled him back in, but shortly
after that, the angry shark bit the underwater camera and took it right off
the pole. Good thing I had my polarized
Costas on, I
could see that camera sitting on the bottom of the sandy flat. Sam had to go
back in to get the camera and I don't know if I've seen anyone in and out of
the water that fast, ever! Good times. Ha!
A special thanks to our friends at Star Brite for the hospitality while
in Islamorada. They opened up their home to me and the crew and we truly
appreciate it. When you're on the road as much as we are, a little bit of
"home" away from home makes a huge difference in the morale. We enjoyed it
and will definitely be back. If y'all have never been down to Islamorada
yet, you really need to check it out. Some of the most beautiful water I've
ever seen. While you're there, stop by Islamorada Boats, test drive a
Skeeter bay boat,
and meet Capt. Tony Melton!
Until next week . . . tight lines,
Blair
