I'm fly fishing on this week's show - it's not just for streams and creeks anymore! On a recent
shoot of Addictive Fishing, I was pulled 122 feet around a 61 foot boat in the middle of the Gulf on a
fly rod by a blackfin tuna. Whew! My arms were sore stretched out a few inches longer, but worth every drop
of sweat.
We had the opportunity to fish on the Star brite (61’ Viking) again with
Capt. Pete Dornau and Gregor Dornau, as they took us on a trip to the Dry
Tortugas with our local guide Capt. Chris Trosset. Capt. Chris is the
son of legendary captain, “RT” Robert Trosset, and has been fishing in Key
West all his life. In 1994, RT became the first captain to lead clients to 100 International
Game Fish Association world records, a feat that was finally recognized by
the IGFA with a lifetime achievement award in 2006. He currently has 183
IGFA World records. That’s
impressive. His son Chris is a pretty impressive Captain as well, and
we were lucky to have him as a guide for the week.
Capt. Chris put me on more big fish in 4 hours than I
think I've ever caught. I'm glad I brought along some
new tackle to try out and put to the test. The new Sabalos fly
reel by Wright & McGill held up nicely while I cranked that blackfin
in, and the Flats Blue fly rod made me proud. Wish I could do that
more often, but I guess I’ll just have to watch this week’s episode for
now. Check out this week’s episode “Tuna Fly” – Friday at 10:30 a.m. ET on Fox Sun Sports (replays Sunday 9:30 p.m. ET / Tuesday 6:00 a.m.
ET).
The winner of this week’s “Show Your Mogan” photo contest is . . .
Darren Drenner with a sweet 38" Snook caught in Sebastian last week on light tackle.
Darren posted his photo in the Mogan Lounge on Google+ and he
says the snook was "an awesome fight! He caught 3 Snook
over 20lbs in the same spot on spoons while wading the
backwaters." Nice going Darren. I love catching those monster Snook
on light tackle too, always makes my knees shake! Want a chance to win a cool AF Prize Pak? Here’s how you enter: Facebookers must submit their photo within the “Show Your Mogan”
photo contest
Event Page. Instagramers can upload photos with hashtag: #showyourmogan or join the
Mogan Lounge on Google+
and post your photo there as well.
I told y'all last week that I would be doing some serious traveling
over the next month, well for my first leg of the itinerary I'm back
in California with my wife Cari, and son Drayden, visiting Cari's
family. We were out here last March shooting a show fishing for
Calico Bass, but this time, I'm fishing just for fun and my son is
doing a good job of hooking up some sweet Vermillion Snapper.
Cool looking fish out here . . . next stop, Vegas baby!!
Don't think I'll be fishing for anything other than the jackpot
at the poker table out there.
I'm taking next week off since we will be at ICAST, but 2 weeks from
now I will have the biggest news in our 14 year history . . . can't
wait to share it with you.
Hope your 4th of July holiday weekend will be filled with fishing
fireworks.
Be safe and tight lines,
Blair Wiggins
