Bunch of Airheads

I'm bleeding, got a hook in my thumb, I'm fishing with airheads, and it's a great day on the water!  When Mark Nichols calls and tells you he’s got a new lure ready for ya to try out, and to come get some, you pretty much drop everything, drive down to Stuart and pick up a bunch.  Mark said he’d been working on this lure for a couple of years getting it ready, and wanted me to see it and check it out.  The very next day, I was scheduled to shoot another episode of AF (this week’s episode) in Vero with Capt. Christian Yergens, and without even telling Christian what I had up my sleeve, I started throwing this hot-off-the-press lure from DOA.  Don’t think I’ve ever done anything like that before, but hey, there’s always a first.

Me and the crew get out on the water with Capt. Christian, the wind’s blowing and the conditions are a bit rough, so Producerman is a little nervous we’re not going to get a show (it’s his job to worry about stuff like that, it's my job to catch fish).  We were seeing tons of big snook, but they just wouldn’t eat.  I’m throwing this new DOA lure called the Airhead and it looks beautiful in the water, but I’ve never used it before, so I don’t know how it’s going to work.  It was just about then, I hook a trout, land it and the dag’gum thing chomps down on my thumb.  If y’all don’t know, trout have teeth – two big fangs in the front and boy do they hurt.  But hey, I always say “If I’m bleeding first thing in the morning . . . it’s gonna be a good day!”  Later in the day, I switched it up and started throwing the Mirrodine and managed to get the hook wedged right into the top of my thumb, so by now I’m thinking – it’s going to be a GREAT day.  And, it was because on the last cast of the day, I hooked into a 10 lb. trout.  That’s definitely a first on Addictive Fishing – a 10 lb. seatrout.  Awesome!  Check out this week’s episode –  “Airheads” on Fox Sun Sports (Friday, 10:30 a.m. ET / Sunday 9:30 p.m. ET / Tuesday 6:00 a.m. ET).

Last week I told you I was going out on Tampa Bay to shoot some web videos, well here’s one we did on the TroKar Mogan Spoon.  Had a great time on the water just going over different tackle info for ya.  Click here to check out the latest: Mogan Spoon Video

It’s time to pick a winner from the “Show Your Mogan” photo contest!  And the winner is . . . Gus Villagran with a sweet 25 lb. Gus, just check out all the gear you’ve got coming your way.  Make sure you let us know how you do after putting this stuff to work!  We’ll be picking another winner in 2 weeks so get out on the water and “Show Your Mogan!”

I’m heading to Homosassa this week to fish with Capt. Billy Henderson.  Y’all might remember him from the famous bull shark episode years ago – “Homosassa Humdinger.”  It’s been a few years since we've fished together, so I’m looking forward to spending a day or two on the water with him.

After that, the AF crew is getting ready to head deep south to the furthest point in Florida – Key West.  Last year we got to do some pretty cool stuff with the Star brite folks when they took us to Bimini.  Well, this time we’re loading up Star brite’s 62’ Viking and heading out to the Dry Tortugas.  It’s always something fun with Capt. Pete, Gregor, Kevin and Bill from Star brite . . . can’t wait to show you what we catch!

Gotta get going, I’m respooling my Sabalos with some FINS Metered braid for deep dropping.  It’s almost time to smash more bugs on my windshield heading to the next shoot and catch me some more Mogans.

Until next week . . . tight lines,
