Breakfast of Champions

3/5/2010

Did you see the hockey game between the U.S. and Canada? Wow! Although there are many names worthy of a spot on a cereal box, there is one name sure to be overlooked; Max. Max has got to be faster than any speed skater, more agile than any slalom skier and more cunningness than a curler. Falling to the pressures of the competition, there’s at least one squirrel that won’t do that again. And as Max takes a sip from the cement pond to wash down the sweet taste of victory, we’ll direct our attentions to other items on the plate this week. There’s never a dull moment at the Dirty Dog Ranch.

The Mogan Man caught an earful of instruction this week as he met with the guys from Minn Kota & Humminbird. Marketing Director of Humminbird, Mark Gibson, showed off the XM Weather module for the Humminbird 1197. Get real-time weather reports, radar images, weather alerts and never again be caught off guard by a surprise storm system. After class at the console was over, Capt. Blair went straight to the bow where he learned to operate the new Minn Kota iPilot. The iPilot is the world’s first GPS-based trolling motor control system. Retrace a successful path, set cruise control, or use the trolling motor as a virtual anchor to hold the boat in position over structure with the push of a couple of buttons. Hands free operation means you’ll never miss a strike or casting opportunity while reaching down to adjust the trolling motor. Check out the pictures from the Minn Kota / Humminbird Field Day on our Facebook page.

In efforts to save our favorite people some big money, we continue our Minn Kota / Humminbird coverage and pull a name from the hat for our first HB Kayak Combo Fishfinder. February’s winner will receive the Humminbird 385ci Combo GPS/sonar! This small unit is packed with huge technology perfect for kayaks and small boats with limited space. Congratulation Krystal Diggs! She came out to see us at the Florida Sportsman Show in Ft. Myers a few weeks ago and dropped her entry into the tackle bag. Next month’s winner will grab a brand new Minn Kota trolling motor so be sure to get your entry in today!

If you don’t trust your luck, we still have a deal for you! Minn Kota is offering huge savings with their cash back program. Get up to $100 off a Minn Kota Riptide trolling motor if you purchase before July 1, 2010. Mail-in rebates vary for each model. Visit Humminbird.com for all the details.

It was the best of times and the worst of times… January marked the coldest weather in Florida in 30 years and devastated some of the state’s more tropical species. But for Jason Read, the fishing was on fire! Ft. Pierce proved to be the place for a young angler to cut his teeth and sink them into offshore fishing. Jason landed his first sailfish and mahi mahi in the same day! Jason Read, for braving wintery conditions and accomplishing the great feat of sending us your pictures, I here by appoint you our Mogan of the Week. Nice fish, Jason!

Bob’s Machine Shop is on board with Addictive Fishing

3/5/2010

Producing innovative, high quality products for anglers and performance boaters, Bob’s Machine Shop continues their support for the highly rated fishing show, Addictive Fishing, into the 2010 season. Host of the show, Capt. Blair Wiggins, has been running a Bob’s Machine Shop Jack Plate for many years and is convinced of its environmental and operational benefits.

Bob’s Machine Shop, predominately known for its Jack Plate, revolutionized flats fishing. The Jack Plate lifts the outboard motor creating less drag from the motor improving performance, increasing fuel economy and allowing boats to run shallower by lifting the propeller above the protected grass beds. Bob’s Machine Shop is the exclusive manufacturer of Ranger Boats motor accessories and also has a full line of performance parts and add-ons that can customize your boat into a high performance fishing machine.

From Jack Plates to engine controls, BMS believes quality creates its own demand. New for 2010, Bob’s Machine Shop makes it easier getting back into the boat with their new engine mounted ladder. The two step ladder mounts directly to the BMS Jack Plate and is easy to operate. A pull of a pin, the ladder deploys with ease. The ladder snaps back into position when you are ready to run. Whether you are clearing weeds from the prop or just taking a dip during a hot day of fishing, the engine-mounted ladder makes re-boarding a breeze.
